The handsome and dapper senior Siamese gentleman pictured above is Fred. Here’s what Megan B. says about Fred and how he came to be a part of her life:

This is the newest addition to our family! This is our 11 year old siamese Fred, who we adopted from our city’s shelter after being surrendered by his owners. People kept placing holds to adopt him, but wouldn’t come back to get him after they found out about his medical problems. He is in stage one of kidney disease and only has his incisor teeth left due to bad oral health issues. Despite his medical diagnosis and his age, we still welcomed him into our home! He gets along great with our other two rescue siamese and our rescue dog. Although he’s old in age, he’s young at heart. We love him so much and encourage other cat lovers out there to adopt senior cats! They need homes as well and have just as much love to give.

We know you love your cats as much as we love ours and that you want to keep them as healthy, happy, and safe as possible.

Unfortunately, some things that may be in your house can be poisonous to cats. And as we all know, Siamese Cats are especially curious and will usually get into anything they can get their cute little paws on! 

But don't worry! We've got you covered. Read on to discover how to keep your kitty safe.

To begin with, lots of stuff is obviously dangerous if your cats (or any living thing) gets into it. For example, cleaning products like bleach and ammonia, and chemicals like kerosene, turpentine, & paint remover are poisonous and need to be kept out of reach at all times. In this category, antifreeze is especially dangerous because it tastes sweet, so many cats will lap it up thinking it's a treat.

Another general category of household items to be particularly careful ​of are prescription medications. Any of these can be harmful to your cats. And if your kitties are at all like ours, they will gobble up anything that even vaguely resembles a treat, so be extra careful to keep meds out of reach.

Along these lines, it may surprise you to discover that even non prescription medications, vitamins, and supplements can harm your cats. And as they will do with prescription meds if given the chance, many cats will eat pills they find thinking they're treats.

Here's a list of things that can poison your Meezer which might surprise you!

• Lillies
• Ibuprofen & Acetaminophen (like Advil and Tylenol)
• Tobacco (including nicotine patches

Did You Know That Chocolate Can Kill Your Cat?

Halloween is almost upon us. The decorations are up, everyone is working on costumes, and trick-or-treating is right around the corner. Even if you don’t have kids, Halloween can be a lot of fun.

And there’s chocolate. If you are like me, you love chocolate. In fact, I personally think the real purpose for Halloween is to celebrate the joys of chocolate (Valentine’s Day, too).  Maybe this year I’ll dress up as a giant Hershey’s Kiss.

But I digress.

Halloween means we here at Chez Tamstercat have chocolate in the house… you know, strictly because it’s a social obligation. Ahem.

Sadly, as yummy as chocolate is, it can be toxic to our beloved kitties. Our Siamese Gremlin is, shall we say, an aficionado for all foods. That is, he will eat just about anything, including chocolate. So, we have to be extra careful this time of year to make sure he doesn’t get hold of any chocolate.

OBESE PETS: WHAT ARE THE RISKS?

We get it; you love your kitty. We love ours too. We all want our cats to be happy, and believe it or not, that can be the problem.

What I mean to say is that wanting our beloved kitties to be happy may cause us to overindulge them with food. And this can lead to obesity.
