Keep Your Kitty Safe!

We know you love your cats as much as we love ours and that you want to keep them as healthy, happy, and safe as possible.

Unfortunately, some things that may be in your house can be poisonous to cats. And as we all know, Siamese Cats are especially curious and will usually get into anything they can get their cute little paws on! 

But don't worry! We've got you covered. Read on to discover how to keep your kitty safe.

To begin with, lots of stuff is obviously dangerous if your cats (or any living thing) gets into it. For example, cleaning products like bleach and ammonia, and chemicals like kerosene, turpentine, & paint remover are poisonous and need to be kept out of reach at all times. In this category, antifreeze is especially dangerous because it tastes sweet, so many cats will lap it up thinking it's a treat.

Another general category of household items to be particularly careful ​of are prescription medications. Any of these can be harmful to your cats. And if your kitties are at all like ours, they will gobble up anything that even vaguely resembles a treat, so be extra careful to keep meds out of reach.

Along these lines, it may surprise you to discover that even non prescription medications, vitamins, and supplements can harm your cats. And as they will do with prescription meds if given the chance, many cats will eat pills they find thinking they're treats.

Here's a list of things that can poison your Meezer which might surprise you!

• Chocolate
• Lillies
• Ibuprofen & Acetaminophen (like Advil and Tylenol)
• Tobacco (including nicotine patches
• Bread Dough
• Zinc (like is in coins)

Know and Notice

The long and short of it is that lots of things in the home could potentially harm or even kill your cat, from plants to pills to chemicals to shoelaces. The good news is that once we arm ourselves with the right knowledge, it’s easy to make sure your kitty stays out of harm’s way and remains healthy and happy.

1) Keep Kitty Indoors

If your meezer is not already indoor-only, the Fourth of July is one day that he should be. His normal routines will be disrupted by the extra activity, and the usual safe spots may not be as safe. Home firecrackers, and official fireworks shows, can make him very anxious. They can also cause injury. Sadly, it is well known that veterinarians are extra busy on July 5th treating stressed and injured animals.

2) Watch for Door Dashing

Visitors mean more opportunities for door dashing, keep a closer eye on your cat. Also be sure that he is wearing a collar with tags. As we know, meezers are very stubborn and persistent, so it may be necessary to keep your cat secluded in his own room until the party is over.

3) Create a Safe Environment

Seclusion can also be good for reducing anxiety, and you can add calming scents and sounds. However, do not treat your cat with anti-anxiety medication, unless your veterinarian recommends it.

Do make sure there are sufficient hiding places and food and water as far away from the strange noises as possible. Feed kitty his normal diet and try to maintain as many of your daily routines as possible.
