Hi Jane! You’re right – and Blue Buffalo was recently involved in recalls and I believe false advertising. I’ve stopped feeding it to my cats. My boys are also at risk of urinary crystals, so I have them on Royal Canin prescription. Thank you 🙂

WOW … please read ingredients in royal canin or blue buffalo … they are NOT healthy
for your precious cat…. Also, whoever at the fda that thinks carragean and menadione sodium bisulfate are ok ingredients to feedd cats are insane….

I would never feed my cat dog my dad did when i was young and he got a disease where he could not go to the bathroom and the operation would have cost 1000 dollars and we could not afford so we had to put him down:( so no dog food!

I have two 5 year old blue point Siamese house cats who recently had most of their teeth removed. They have a history of being sick as have all my past Siamese. They seem to vomit every day and sometimes bringing the whole meal up. This is frustrating as they will throw up on the bed, on a chair or bedding etc and so causes lots of work. Since having all their teeth removed they have gourmet wet food as they cannot chew. They were only having 2 sachets each day in 4 sittings. Is this too much?

Any recommendations of the best wet food and does anyone else have the problem of their cats vomiting and what do you do to prevent it?

A few bites of dog food are ok, but make sure she is eating cat food for her regular meals. Dog food is missing some very important nutrients that cats need.

I was feeding both my Siamese boys Blue Buffalo dry and Fancy Feast along wet (along with my two female cats) until about 4 months ago when both boys came down with urinary tract infections and were found to have lots of crystals in their urine. Because the crystals can build up and cause dangerous blockages, two veterinarians recommended switching to prescription food. So now they get Royal Canin S/O dry and Science Diet c/d wet. The girl cats I switched to Science Diet Urinary Health (you can get this at the store) because it is slightly better than other dry foods in case the boys get into it.

Cats can be picky, as you have found out! Most of the lower quality dry foods have lots of additives that make it taste better, so it’s like kitty McDonald’s. Switching them off that can take time, and you have to mix in a little bit of the new food over at least two weeks, gradually increasing the new and decreasing the old. For wet foods, the fish and beef flavors tend to be preferred (except for salmon). All of mine prefer the pate over the gravy, and they hate the ones that have vegetables like peas and carrots. Depending on your girl’s size, age, and activity level, she may need more or that may be about right. You can check with your vet on how much to feed each day.
