Thanks so much for sharing your story! Without a doubt, black cats are widely misunderstood and we feel it’s important to get the truth out 😉

When I was a little girl, I had a female Siamese who was impregnated by a ginger (orange) tom. (Back then, decades ago, neutering was much less systematic). She had two black male kittens and a female dark tortie kitten. One of the black half-Siamese toms, Theodore, became my very best friend, and alas he was killed by a car.

Since then I’ve had two black “Siamese crosses”. Nadja was 3/4 Siamese: her two brothers were Seal Points. She was black with blue eyes, and lived to almost 15. Now I have Renzo, who is 19 years old, with a Siamese face, yowl and “one-person-bonding”. Oh, he is friendly to other people, but he is definitely my cat and I’m his human.

He’d been found, as a kitten, after a hurricane so was one scared little cat. As it usually works out, a safe roof over his head, a lot of love and human interaction, and time to start to feel secure did the usual magic and he turned out to be one of those great cats that are just somehow extra special. He remains cautious and shy around strangers but is otherwise a happy, beautiful, intelligent addition to the family. I also think that black cats are really beautiful so will more in the future and appreciate all efforts, by anyone, to help that ridiculous superstition that is so damaging to their adoption prospects. My veterinarian accepts blacks for adoption but will allow clients whom he knows and trusts to adopt them. So local cat rescuers bring him the black cats as they know they’ll get good homes.

Always great learning more about cats. Over the years we have had Siamese that have been FANTASTIC! And now we have a solid gold tabby. Coopurr-rr, and a solid black kitty, Jumpin Jack Flash. They were foster buddies when we adopted them and remain buddies. What a pair!!
